Opinion document: The question of new political borders in the Middle East: A dangerous sand map

Violence is the order of the day in many countries with Muslim majority population. The study seeks to explore its causes. The concept of ethnic or religious divisions seems to be one of the main determinants of this violent confrontation. The case of the creation of a "Western" map about the region, after the Sykes-Picott treaty, seems a problem and not a solution to the current divisions. Although other factors are contemplated within the violence in the Middle East, it is thought that a new definition of the borders of the Sykes-Picott map itself could be the consequence of the violent clashes and civil wars in the region after the so called “Arab Spring”. But nevertheless, the authors believe that any changes or try new political boundaries in this unstable region may contribute to a worsening of the regional and global situation.
