Opinion document: Sunni-Shiite confrontation: her reflection in the traditional Arab-Persian rivalry and impact in the Middle East

Nowadays, situation in the Middle East is shaped by an antagonist rivalry between two different ways of understanding society and religion. This rivalry, fed by (or coming from, depending on the opinion) the Islam divide mainly between Sunnis and Shias, draws the current overview of the conflicts in the Middle East.
Likewise, this rivalry has been protected and encouraged by the traditional Arab-Persian divide, transformed in overt political confrontation (and military in some scenarios), that should be understood, taking into account the importance of this area to our foreign policy, our economy and our security. Up to where the religion is one factor exploited by these two governments, or a key element in this rivalry is a difficult question, opened to different considerations that each reader should do.
