Opinion document: The fragmented Islam: Fanaticism, Power and Religion

The first of a series of Islamic civil wars also known as fitna took place between 656 and 661. The right for being the true successor of Mohamed and Caliph of vast empire was what really triggered the conflict.
Time and constant struggles for the sake of truth and power not only have created various schools of thought within the main Islamic branches but also have increased differences between the major Islamic faiths.
The article seeks to study, from an outsider observer, the current level of fragmentation achieved by Islam through the analysis of Islamic faiths, branches, schools of thought, very important authors and present conflicts.
