Opinion document: Libya: The struggle for resources

On 17 February 2011, a revolution broke out in order to overthrow the tyranny embodied in the figure of the « prophet » of the Green Book, Muammar el Gaddafi, and to open new freedoms and dignities spaces to the people. Three years after the fall of the regime, not just those winds of democratic change relented, but have been new internal conflicts, tribal, ideological, and struggle for domination of the political arena, whose ultimate goal is to achieve power because, this way, new rungs up in the race for control of energy resources. And in this new dynamic, Libya has a renewed political elite, ideologically divided between Islamists and non-Islamists, whose purpose is the acquisition of parcels of power, to the detriment of statehood.
