The Shi’ia genealogy.- Manuel González Hernández

After the Battle of Siffin almost fourteen centuries ago, the Kerbalá massacre created a rift, which instead of diminishing, seemed to become progressively wider. Succession in the leadership of the Islamic community was in theory what caused the dispute, but the passing of time, vested interests and the actions of men have perpetuated what is today a veritable crisis within Islam. This division has not only determined religious and political leadership, but has established different methods of implementing laws and celebrating rites.
The Shi’ia genealogy and its syncretic conception, make necessary an analysis of its origins, of its rites, the number of its followers and its geographical location so that an attempt can be made to understand the complicated geopolitical scenario of the world today.
