There is a legal vacuum that leaves many children who take part in internal armed conflicts nowadays undefended. This is the case of South Sudan. Being children under the age of 15, they are considered illegitimate combatants though in many cases they are not even considered soldiers since they do not take part in the hostilities directly. In spite of it, the legal framework has advanced very much, but not the reality as it is analyzed in this document. Since December, 2013, both parts in conflict in South Sudan have increased their activity of recruiting minors.
