The World Economic Forum celebrated in Davos .- Álvaro Santoro Somoza

Optimism has been moderating during the last few quarters as it has become increasingly clear that the economic recovery in the developed world will be modest and the emerging economies continue their deceleration. Furthermore, the geopolitical situation has deteriorated even more markedly, especially in the Ukraine and the Middle East. In spite of the more tempered optimism, 2015 was perceived in the World Economic Forum celebrated in Davos last January as providing –thanks to the cheapening of oil and, in the case of European countries, the implementation of quantitative easing by the ECB- a window of opportunity for many countries to introduce structural reforms and, in terms of geopolitics, for the stepping up of efforts to resolve the main conflicts currently raging, which for now remain mostly contained, in order to prevent them from spreading. Additionally, the Forum addressed other key challenges the world is facing, including in the fields of the armed forces and the intelligence services.
