Japan: A security dilemma.-Francisco J. Ruiz González

After its defeat in World War II, Japan left its security in the hands of the United States, being able to focus on economic development. Nowadays, and with Shinzo Abe as prime minister, Tokyo is assuming a greater responsibility in the Asia-Pacific security, and for that it is reinforcing its military based on a growing nationalism, and it has signed the new “Defense Guidance” with Washington. However, there are some doubts about the effectiveness of these measures to solve the security dilemma that faces Japan, no other than managing the emergence of China as a great global power.
