The nuclear power generation .- Emilio Mínguez

In the next 40 years the advanced countries will need more electrical power installed for the new industrial development. Underdevelopment countries without an important electrical power installed will need new power plants to attend the future demand of energy. The nuclear power will be considered in the mix of energies in all countries, competitively with other carbonless sources of energies.
Because most of the present nuclear power plants will be decommissioned in about 20-30 years from now, it is necessary to prepare a program for installing new ones maintaining the same percentage of energy production in the world. In a short term, this replacement will take place using advanced concepts of reactor, called Generation III.
Later on, a group of reactors now under development called Generation IV will be installed. Additionally the nuclear fusion, using laser technology, will contribute to produce electricity.
In this paper, a review of the nuclear power generation in several countries has been presented, and also the new concepts of reactors now under development. Beside Fukhusima accident, nuclear power will contribute actively in the mix of energies in the next 50 years.
