Barack Obama , nuclear security and terrorism.- José Mª Blanco Navarro & Estefanía Esteban Moreno

The nuclear threat is usually cited as one of the most potential impact if materializing. It exists since the Cold War, although the current concern focuses on possible actions by terrorist groups acting globally, in scenarios such as the acquisition of a nuclear bomb, an attack or sabotage of a nuclear power plant, or the development and use of a "dirty bomb". Given the existing risk, governments have seen the need to invest more resources in the protection and care of nuclear power plants that are scattered throughout the world and deepen measures to control possible access to nuclear material used in thousands of civilian centres. Therefore, the focus of the recent Nuclear Security Summit 2016 in Washington DC was the potential danger of an attack of this nature.

This article analyses both, the content of the Summit and the legacy of US President Barack Obama in this area, as well as the risk of the use of this weapon of mass destruction by terrorists.
