The UK, a pioneer country in the calculations necessary for the design of a nuclear weapon during World War II, has gone through various vicissitudes since the end of the conflict up to the present, with the aim of achieving secure their strategic defence. This paper analyses the major milestones of this nuclear program, paying particular attention to the complex process of renewal of the fleet of nuclear submarines equipped with Trident missiles which currently is at a decisive stage and that will mark the future of this country in the international strategic landscape.
