Herbert Raymond McMaster, New National Security Adviser.- Andrés González Martín

On February 20, 2017, just one month after his inauguration as President, Donald Trump appointed Lt. Gen. H. R. Mcmaster as National Security Advisor to replace Lieutenant General Michael Flynn.

General McMaster has the profile of an academic warrior. In 1997, published his doctoral thesis in a book entitled "Dereliction of Duty", which would end up being a great success years later during the war in Iraq.

As a cavalry captain he commanded a squadron that fought in the First Iraq War, being distinguished with the silver star by his intervention in the battle of the line "73 Easting", where in a single day destroyed about 80 National Guard tanks without having any casualties.

He was Colonel of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, deployed in Iraq in 2004 with the mission of securing the city of Tal Afar. His mission was a great success because of the new tactics, techniques and procedures employed by his unit.

General Martin Dempsey, Army Chief of Staff, stated that McMaster was probably his best Brigadier General. All of his appointments as a general officer, except the overseas missions, have been connected to teaching, doctrine and the development of future concepts and capabilities.

Now he takes on the challenge of leading the National Security Council where inevitable tensions are obvious.
