Resettlement and relocation of refugees and their application in the current humanitarian crisis.- Felipe Manchón Campillo

The number of refugees has largely increased, provoking a worldwide humanitarian crisis that has outstripped the previsions. Several measures of varying importance are taking place, looking to solve rapidly and efficiently the massive amount of asylum petitions that are being submitted.

The groups of migrants with special conditions of vulnerability have to benefit from a specific type of protection. The goal of resettlement, which has been into force since the middle of the XX century delivering major results, is to achieve the integration of refugees in their new societies. Nevertheless, the current crisis has provoked the appearance of a new approach, relocation, whose aim is to transfer the migrants to other countries with enough capacity to shelter them. This paper intends to analyze both, considering their similarities and differences, and attempting to identify which of them can be more positive to the migrants.
