The Mexican Armed Forces in the fight against organized crime.- José Ignacio Montero Vieira

Mexico has been living for decades the scourge of organized crime related to cartels. The turning point was experienced in 2006, when the federal government headed by Felipe Calderón began the deployment of thousands of military personnel, whose function was to counteract the firepower of criminal organizations and to diminish their territorial control. Eleven years after the beginning of this conflict, the situation does not improve: Police corps are still not ready to relieve the army at the head of public security, the government only relies on the Armed Forces and these have already expressed their concern about how long they will continue to carry out these tasks.
