The new diasporas: the religious extremism and the nationalist power of current diasporic communities.- Eduardo Saldaña Lisedas

The diaspora has always been a key element in the analysis of certain groups. However, the definition of the term has evolved to become an important element in the policies of many countries and in the conformation of extremist groups. The relation of the emigrant population towards their host countries, the marginalization they live in a global society and the need to develop multicultural policies, have brought the study of the diasporas to the center stage. An idea, this one of diaspora, that has adapted to the current context and which is gradually used by nationalist and radical movements. The traditional idea, based on the Jewish and Armenian examples, has been overpassed by a wider view which brings together a bigger spectrum of individual and diasporic representations.
