Didactic Unit "Spain in Africa".- José Luis Rodríguez Jiménez

Spain is a nation of European culture spread along two continents, Europe and Africa. This fact, together with the Spanish Mediterranean vocation, has had a real influence on its historical process. History textbooks for high school and college pay little attention to this fact. In order to help in the fight against this lack we present a teaching material aimed to increase the knowledge on the African Spanish territories, their name, location and their process of becoming part of the Kingdom of Spain. The lesson plan is intended to emphasizing their importance as a part of Spain for its economic development and also for national security and defense purposes. Besides, this learning unit is meant to bring into the classrooms an aspect which is no fully developed in history books: African territories closely linked with Spain that remain relevant to their cultural and economic projection, as well as important in terms of security, defense and international relationship.
