The Philippines is an archipelago where live in more than one hundred million people live,.The 5% of this population are muslims. The population that professes the Islamic faith is concentrated in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). This region, the only one in Philippines with autonomous government, is constitute by the provinces of Maguindanao, Tawi-Tawi, Sulu, Lanao del Sur and Basilan. The ARMM was established on August 1, 1989 in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Sulu. The official inauguration took place in its capital, Cotabato City, 6 of November of 1990. In 2001 occured the incorporation of Basilan and the city of Marawi . From the time of the colonization the differences between the diverging religions were permanent focal points of tension between the Christian majority and the Muslim minority. Throughout the centuries these differences have favored the emergence if groups independentist more or less aligned ideologically with the Islamic doctrine, around the decade of 1990 occurred the hatch in the country of the yihadist terrorism becoming a factor of destabilization that still survives today.
