Being the least likely case, South Africa was able to cope with the deep-rooted conflict of Apartheid and build a new democratic system. But creating a new political order in such a divided society was not easy at all. This paper aims to analyse the main reasons of this democratization process as well as underline the important role of leadership during the South African transition.
