Liberia, transitional justice and reconciliation still pending.- Pilar Requena del Río

Liberia is at the beginning of a new era after 12 years of presidency of Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. The first African female chief of state took over a devastated and broken country after two civil wars between 1989 and 2003. The women pushed her to power and were also key in ending the conflict by forcing the warlords to peace in the Accra Agreement signed in the capital of Ghana. During these years peace and stability have prevailed in Liberia but there is still a long way to go in relation with transitional justice and reconciliation.
