COVID-19 in Africa: a still-controlled pandemic threatening future catastrophe.- Trinidad Deiros Bronte.

The late arrival of SARS-CoV-2 in Africa, as well as the rapid and, so far, effective reaction to contain it by most of African governments, has slowed down this pandemic on the continent. Nevertheless, with more than a thousand deaths and 30,000 cases, Africa could become the next epicentre of a pathogen that, according to the UN, threatens to infect 10 million people, kill at least 300,000 and plunge 29 million Africans into extreme poverty. The COVID-19 can take the continent back in development if African countries do not get aid that their finance ministers have estimated at least at $100 billion. Africa could also become a reservoir for a virus that will sooner or later travel to the North again, if it is not defeated now.
