Private contractors and the shadow of Abu Ghraib (DIEEEA08-2013)

Early last January, it has been known for the first time that a U.S. private contractor has agreed to pay compensation for abuses committed by its employees in Iraq. Currently, the "Alien Tort Claims Act” (ATCA) is the only US legal instrument available to pursue human rights violations occurring in areas of conflict. This IEEE paper analyzes various issues about the ATCA´s applicability and corporate responsibility.
