The last 16 September, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon presented the report prepared by the inspector team to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian conflict. The analysis of samples carried out in laboratories designated by the OPCW (Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons) confirmed what was obvious: the use of sarin gas on 21st August near Damascus. The international response to the incident was not a military intervention but the pressure on the Syrian Government to adhere to the chemical weapon Convention and to undertake the destruction of its chemical arsenal in accordance with the agreement reached between the US and Russia.
