Borders in South America (DIEEEA39-2016)

Borders in South America move between classical linearity and the "zonality" necessary for their economic and social integration. Globalization, far from facilitating the integration acts in devastating form on the border towns, culture and forms of organization and social relationships; the border economy, is unprepared to compete in an open economy scheme. The bad situation of border crossings in the LA region is closely linked to its low level of development of borders, the absence of proper coordination between the authorities of neighboring countries and the absence of plans, programs and projects to socio-economic areas with higher levels of human development. They are also ways of least resistance for Transnational Organised Crime.
