Nigeria, amalgam of armed conflicts. The conflicts in Biafra and the Nigerian Shia community (DIEEEA54-2017)

Nigeria, the first sub-Saharan economy, has a significant relevance for both Europe and Spain. But Nigeria is also an amalgam of armed conflicts arising from social conflicts that effectively dissolve the possibility of attracting foreign investment. Not surprisingly, Nigeria is probably one of the countries with the greatest number of internal armed conflicts in the world. Throughout this paper, we analyze two Nigerian social conflicts that, despite the presence of direct violence in them, have not evolved in armed conflicts. The conflicts in Biafra and the Nigerian Shia community allow us to approach the problem of Nigerian armed conflicts from the perspective of conditions that, in some way, avoid their evolution in armed conflicts.
