The evolution of the recruitment of minors in the countries participating in the campaign "Children, Not Soldiers" (Part II) (DIEEEA75-2017)

With the aim of halting the recruitment and use of child soldiers in eight countries included in the “list of shame”, The United Nations, The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other associated NGOs launched between 2014 and 2016 the campaign “Children, Not Soldiers”. This proposal led to the signing of action plans by Government armies and opposition forces and even the departure of Chad from the annex of the Secretary-General’s Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflicts.

Thanks to information documented and verified by task teams, the second part of this research analyses the evolution of child recruitment from 2009 to 2016 and the effectiveness of the initiatives developed to combat the recruitment in four countries participating in the campaign: Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen and Somalia.
