After decades of military interventions since the end of World War II, the "boots on the ground boots" debate remains open without a clear preference for the choice of external military interventions, or the delegation of responsibility of operations in local forces. The current scenarios show a new dimension of war characterized by conflicts that perpetuate over time and wherein it is very difficult to achieve victory. At a time when the most realistic geopolitical visions seem to be imposed in large areas of the world and wherein technology associated with globalization has given war a destructive power unthinkable at previous times, it is more necessary than ever to properly solve this debate if we want to prevent current and future conflicts from becoming insoluble.
