Demography is destiny, Lapland invades us (DIEEEA09-2018)

The year 2015 was the first in the European Union and in Spain to register a negative natural increase to population growth, a greater number of deaths than births. The demographic decline is evident and the slight increases that appear in some EU countries are due to immigration. Living in Europe does not mean the same as being European and every year this is truer.

The demography train in Spain moves at different speeds. Some of the wagons stopped on dead roads. This fact causes a fragmentation of the territory and society. The inevitable increase in the dependency ratio, caused by the progressive aging of the population, will force fewer workers to support their contributions and with their taxes to a greater number of pensioners. The demographic imbalances with their growing projection will cause tensions between generations. On the other hand, territorial tensions will increase for the same reasons.
