Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (DIEEEINV01-2014)

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is one of the most resilient terrorist groups linked to Al Qaeda. Yemen has been mired in political turbulence for decades, which facilitated the establishment of fanatic fighters returning from Afghanistan with transnational ties. However, what could have been maintained as a local threat, managed to expand its area of operations, first the entire Arabian Peninsula, then to Africa and the West. The pragmatism of its leaders, linked with an attractive communication policy, has become them as a world reference of Jihad, recruiting members in the Arab world and even the West. It is possibly the best AQ’s asset in its global war.
