Nature and scope of the defense economics (DIEEEO79-2012)

This article reviews the concept of defense economics and also analyzes the main aspects historically, starting with Adam Smith. It also conducts a brief review of the current situation at international level and in the Spanish case, defense spending and defense industry, which are two of the major areas in which this discipline has focused.
