French military intervention in northern Mali has accelerated the needed international response to a growing Jihadist-Salafist threat existing for years in the region. The study of the role played by a number of regional countries – bordering or not the state of Mali – is relevant in order to understand much better either the urgency of the intervention or the neccesity of an accurate response to the existing threat.
