The incidence of confessionalism and communitarianism on the geopolitical crossroads of Lebanon (DIEEEO103-2013)

To what extent the confessionalism and communalism are presented as the cornerstones upon which rests the Lebanese security and defense? In order to answer this question, we will present on one side, the importance of Lebanon as a component of a regional security complex (RSC) in the Middle East. On the other hand, we will present the map of Lebanese confessional communities that affect the complex interplay of local and regional actors that have an impact on its own security and defense. To that end, we bet on a critical approach to conventional Geopolitics if we want to carry out a more efficient analysis. This study analyzes the distribution of settlements of different communities to understand the incidence and geopolitical pressure presented by Syria’s war from the north side, and the result that could erupt again if the armed conflict between Hezbollah and Israel breaks out again from the southern flank.
