2013: Somalia and the Horn of Africa at the Crossroads (DIEEEO12-2013)

The Horn of Africa, a region with a huge geostrategic importance for Europe, and particularly for Spain, has been affected since decades by a deep instability, the clearest representation of which is Somalia, the prototype of a failed State.
The enormous efforts carried out by the International Community towards the stabilization of the region, among which the ones performed by the European Union backed by Spain, begin now to be fruitful despite a number of difficulties derived from the complex Somali scenario. The current situation is still fragile and reversible, but it represents an encouraging phase which requires to keep the momentum and the efforts made so far in order to consolidate the achievements and to advance towards a lasting stabilization of the region.
