Importance of the anthropological aspects of jihadism in contention, the case of Mauritania (DIEEEO20-2013)

The nomad tradition from Arab populations in Western Sahel, who share not only a common genealogy but also the same language, together with the hierarchical structure of these societies, a secular inheritance from a tribal system socially accepted, have been by themselves, guarantees for a social-political stability.
Although after setting up the State in Mauritania, tribes have no political power nowadays they used to have decades ago, they continue to maintain an important influence within the social arena, which contributes to avoid the appearance of revolutionary ideas coming from outside as Al Qaida did.
