The Alliance and the Headquarters of Retamares (DIEEEO44-2013)

Spain has been a NATO Member since 1982. In 1997, Spain decided to fully participate in the integrated military structure mainly by means of hosting a multinational HQ at Retamares (Madrid). Since then, the Retamares HQ has changed and restructured according to NATO Transformation: as Joint Subregional Command Southwest (JSRC SW HQ), Land Component Command Madrid (LCC Madrid HQ) and Force Command Madrid HQ (FCMD HQ). This HQ has gained in complexity, relevance and operational capability across the time. The Retamares HQ has displayed professionalism and good performance, and it has eventually transferred its background and achievements to the other remaining HQs in NATO.
