Tunisia: Return to the beginning of the Arab Spring (DIEEEO70bis-2013)

The evolution of the Arab uprisings after the coup d’état in Egypt is in a critical juncture, moreover with the current situation in Libya and the stalemate in Syria. Amid this turbulent situation one may wonder what are the challenges facing Tunisia, the pioneer, the mirror that inspired the Arab Spring? Have the Islamist government met the expectations of a people with desire for freedom, social and economic improvements? Is Tunis at risk of following in the footsteps of Egypt? We return to the origins of the Tunisian revolution to understand what is happening in a country where the people overthrew a secular autocratic regime to make way for a political system that seeks to re-Islamize society, imposing great challenges in the transition process democratic.
