Spanish candidacy to the Security Council (DIEEEO113-2014)

As every year in the month of October, it's time to renew the five seats that correspond to the non-permanent members of the Security Council. This year 2014 has special significance because Spain is one of the candidates opting to hold one of the seats. Spanish diplomacy like the other candidates is playing its cards to achieve the greatest number of votes as possible but there are three countries contesting for two seats in addition to Spain, Turkey and New Zealand. Each candidacy has its positive aspects. Getting a seat on the Security Council is a diplomatic triumph for any country and it represents, for two years, an active part in decision-making in international organization par excellence.
