The strategic use of Armed Forces (DIEEEO134-2014)

The western World, after its retreat from the operations in Afghanistan and Iraq seems to enter in a ‘strategic pause” in order to reconsider the volume and orientation of the Armed Forces. There is an increasing tendency among politicians and some thinkers to propose further force reductions, and in particular of the ground forces. They appear to forget that the lack of a clear success in both operations was mainly due to the lack of a final control of the Human Domain which, added to the control of the physical domain and the cybernetic domain, is the only way to reach the “desired final state”. And in the Human Domain, the role of the ground forces is vital and irreplaceable. We may add that, in the near future, the most common conflicts will be closer to Iraq´s or Afghanistan´s than to the traditional ones.
