Sudan: test field for regional geopolitics (DIEEEO72-2014)

Northeastern Africa is undoubtedly being ravaged by an unprecedented blaze. The attention of the media, professionals of the military sector, analysts, politicians and international organizations has been focused on the states directly affected by violence outbreaks. In most of cases, the complexity of the ongoing conflicts seems to pose a hurdle for an analysis of their regional effects. Nevertheless, if we shift our glaze towards Sudan, we will come across a country which has kept the distances from the wave of civil wars that has swept the region even though it receives, confronts and makes use of whatever happens in its “near abroad”. A unique test field for regional geopolitics.
