Global governance shifts seem to support the idea of the progressive decline of U.S. power in the world. In addition, the apparent isolation desire of American society emphasizes the perception that American foreign policy is involved in a withdrawal phase. The hypothesis defended by this paper is that geopolitical and geostrategic environment complexity has forced the U.S. administration to implement a pragmatic and prudent approach. Thus, American foreign policy decision process is concerned by the full range of factors that shape the national interest.
