The Chemical Weapons Convention (DIEEEO81-2015)

In the present article we try to analyze some of the deficiencies in the regulation of chemical weapons which present the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, of 1993. The deficiencies here highlighted, some of which have been revealed in the light of the current Syrian conflict, refer to certain "non lethal" chemical substances, such as the agents of domestic riot control and herbicides, sanctions, the time period for the destruction of the chemical arsenals, and the universality of this treaty. Aspects that generate an obstacle in the current system of regulation of this type of armament and that might be resolved by means of a review of this conventional instrument.
