The long process to election of a president in Lebanon: a game of unpredictable alliances (DIEEEO115-2016)

The long process needed for the election of a new president highlights the imperfections of the Lebanese political system, based on the sectarian distribution of power. The victory of Michel Aoun only happened after two years of negotiations and agreements that have stressed the internal crises in both of the two blocks in which most of the political parties are divided, as well as the challenges to be faced by the Shia group Hezbollah, headed by Hassan Nasrallah, and the Sunni Future Movement, controlled by the new Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
