Is Failed coin strategy in Afghanistan? Evolution 2008-2011 and lessons learned (DIEEEO13-2016)

The political and military approach posed by the Obama’s Administration related to Afghanistan with the application of the Counterinsurgency doctrine, created from the lessons learnt in Iraq, didn’t work as a result of internal and external causes. For instance, the changes of strategy (between COIN an counterterrorism strategy), and the political conflicts within the North American Administration; the lack of command unit and effort from NATO; a minimum application of the Comprehensive Approach and the national caveats; the internal corruption in Afghanistan, and eventually, the position of Pakistan. All these components make it difficult to point out if the new COIN strategy carried out by the US didn’t achieve their objectives due to their approach or because of all kind of determinants that in fact made their implementation impossible.
