Mali: if political dialogue does go further, violence will prevail (DIEEEO75-2016)

In 2012, Mali succumbed to the biggest security, political and humanitarian crisis since its independence. That year, a coup d´etat ended the democratic regime; while the Tuareg rebels along with jihadist groups destroyed the territorial integrity and national sovereignty in the north. In June 2015, the Algiers Agreement between the government and Tuareg rebels became the mainstay for "the rebirth of Mali". A year later however, there are still many pending issues, as the Jihadist attacks increase both inside and beyond Malian borders. Right now, political dialogue is the only way to stop the ever-growing violence that threatens to shatter the future of Mali, and whose consequences are manifest throughout the region and beyond the African continent.
