Conflict in Mali: From the Afghan Buddhas to the ruins of Timbuktu (DIEEEI42-2012)

Malí struggles in an extreme situation, with the North of the country subjugated to the islamic armies and an extended power vacuum. In a few months, an almost model democracy in Africa has fallen into the chasm of failed states. The chances to erradicate Azawad's yihadism and recovering the institutional stability go through an international intervention in the North of the country.
