It is well known the worldwide social debate generated by fracking in the last few years. The European Union, concerned about its energy security and the huge dependency of certain Member States, has not been on the sidelines of this phenomenon. Nevertheless, the configuration of competencies present in the Treaty of Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) makes possible the differentiation between the Union’s position and each Member State’s one about fracking.
The present document gives an account of the up-to-date situation of the issue, reviewing the Union’s position and some of the most outstanding positions among the Member States, as well as the content of some documents published by the European institutions.
