Honduran Political Landscape: Crisis of Governance and insecurity as the main challenges of the new government (DIEEEO36-2014)

Last January 27th, Juan Orlando Hernández assumed the Honduran presidency for a four-year period, succeeding Porfirio Lobo, his colleague of the governing National Party. His main challenge is guaranteeing the democratic stability and diminishing the high levels of insecurity, which has been plaguing the Central American country for decades. These levels have recently increased, reaching chilling levels and turning Honduras into the most insecure country in the world. The present analysis reveals government actions aimed at guaranteeing governability and the role of the Armed Forces to fight the high levels of insecurity ravishing the country.
