Kazakhstan, a possible objective of Islamist attacks? (DIEEEO20-2012)

Kazakhstan, the Central Asian country which celebrated in 2011 its 20th anniversary of Independence, moved from a statist political, economic and social model (Soviet style) to another more liberal in few years, without abandoning some elements of its old tradition and of the communism that had just come out, reaching high levels of social and economic development unparalleled in the area. Its model of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among different ethnic groups have allowed, along with some economic progress, keep it away from the most feared danger in the area: Islamist terrorism. Its international initiatives and its multivector diplomacy have enabled it to maintain excellent relations with major powers in the world (USA, Russia, China, India, EU) in addition to its Central Asian neighbors and the most influential regional organizations (SCO and CSTO ).
