The EU strategy against jihadism in times of ISIS (DIEEEM17-2015)

The emergence of self-proclaimed Islamic State of Syria and Irak in the international scene in the summer of 2014 has entailed a paradigm shift within the global jihadist movement. Nevertheless, the European Union does not appear to have significantly changed its traditional strategy against jihadist terrorism. Therefore, this article aims to provide a critical analysis of the EU strategy against jihadism, before and after ISIS, in order to assess if the current strategy is relevant to face the new threats that the group poses. Subsequently, in light of the announcement of a new European Security Strategy, we will suggest some of the changes that might be introduced in it.
