The Arabian Peninsula has also been struck by the political and social earthquake that is shaking North Africa and the Middle East. In Yemen, the wave of protests has stirred up the flames of a latent fire that has come to inflame the political-tribal-military establishment which resisted for more than three decades thanks to President Saleh’s pragmatism and his strategy of cooptation. This paper analyzes the most relevant formal and substantive aspects within the mediation of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and places the conflict in its current state of evolution: the conference for National Dialogue.
