The Kurdish issue: towards a new State in the Middle East? (DIEEEO103-2017)

The struggle for an independent Kurdistan began around 100 years ago when Western world, after World War I, introduced the nation-state system into a tribal-shaped Middle East. Since then, Kurdish efforts to create its own state successfully, mainly in what currently is Iraq, have faced their internal divisions, opposition and indifference of the international community and the recurrent abandonment of their allies. Will the present and unpredictable geopolitical situation in the Middle East allows this time the birth of a Kurdish state?
